The Long Hot Days Of Summer

golf ball, at Ruth Lake Country Club
Its been hot this summer. Temperatures soaring past 100 degrees. Day after day. Each round of players comes back to the Club House at War Memorial Golf Course saying. "Its hot out there". Time after time golfers have been complimentary of the condition of the course. Some of you may have noticed some earth dropped along the third hole. Guess that is part of the improvement. We could use more earth on the fourth hole and the fifth under the trees and maybe to fill in the mud holes along the first hole. The cart path to the new 13th hole goes on the left side of the 1st hole, where hopefully no one hits the ball. The back nine is all messed up as far as skycaddy and other distance markers are concerned. Give it time. We haven't tried it, and don't know much about golf Global Positioning Devices, but maybe you can trick them as far as hole numbers and refer to the holes as what they used to be for 14, 15, and 16 instead of the new hole numbers. Or perhaps, we can get Bob Baker to contact the distance measurement companies to renew their efforts and redefine the measurements on the course. We have noticed that on Saturdays and maybe other days as well the holes on the other side of the road-13 and 14 tend to back up. Maybe its because players tend to hit to the right on the 13th hole and players tend to hit to the left on the 14th hole. Golf carts in case you haven't noticed are newer this year. Just recently they have an added convenience in that there are numbers hanging down in the front window on each cart in addition to the decal on the side of the carts. Our club house has fewer items to sell. There are clubs, hats, golf gloves, golf balls including Bridgestone, Callaway, Nike, Srixon, Top Flight, except Titlelist, and Maxfli. There are cleats for golf shoes, but no golf shoes. Small tubes of sun tan lotion, ball markers, and tees. This year the Club House also sells hot dogs, albeit they are a whopping $3.00 which includes the bun and fixings. There is beer also.

Upcoming events in the area are the Hickory Club Tournament which will be at the First Tee this year in early October. We'll have the Club Championship which will also be scheduled later in October.
