Sam McCallister shot a cool 65 one over par in the second day to top his 70 on Saturday to take the lead in the Super Seniors going into Monday for the Super Seniors with Larry Patterson close behind with a 126 and Dan Young third with a 128. Absent from the field this year is perennial winner Ralph Williams who is recuperating from eye surgery. So Sam finally had some time for his day in the sun.
Roger Clement who shot par on Saturday and Sunday is tied for first with Stan Lee in the Senior Division. Lee Shot a wonderful 62 on Saturday, then tripped up with a 66 on Sunday.
Todd Martin is comfortably in the lead in the Mid-Senior Division after a great 62 on Saturday and then a one over par 65 on Sunday.
The Second Day of the War Memorial Fourth of July Tournament brought another humid day, but with wind. Rain cooled off the Course after blistering heat the day before. Past champions jockeyed for position for an exciting finish to the second round of the championship tournment which to say the least was anticlimactic for those watching only because there was one more day and anything can happen especially at War Memorial Golf Course. Joey Nichols, a tax lawyer with the Friday Law Firm from Little Rock, edged out Alex Carpenter, last years champion for the second day of the tournament. But Carpenter was just 1 stroke behind with a 124 for 36 holes. Tied for third were Neil Phelps and Lyle Middleton with a 36 hole total of 125. Not to be outdone, Lane Hulse and Michael Satterwhite tied for fourth place with a 36 hole total of 126.
Its going to be a dazzling finale tomorrow, even if it doesn't rain. The writer wishes to thank Bob Baker for providing todays scores in time for this publication.
