The City of Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department is planning to make changes to the War Memorial Golf Course. At a meeting two Saturday’s ago, presented its plans to make some changes to the War Memorial Golf Course. So far, the City is planning to close the 17th hole and make it the entryway to the park with an Arch from Fair Park. Other plans call moving the tee ground for 13 North of where it is and moving the green also north that is making a new green. Also, in place of 17 adding 14 on the North side of Fair Park, but making it go the same direction that it goes east-west and constructing a new green next to the new tee ground for the new 13. Then, the city is planning on building a playground where the current tee ground for 13 is. When asked who would be designing the new holes, Mark Webb said Glenn Hickey would be framing them. When asked why the city wanted to take away 17, Truman Tollfree claimed that it was extremely dangerous with traffic on Fair Park and balls traveling onto the road and into incoming cars from the 17th tee ground. When asked why the city wants to build a playground where the 13th tee ground is now, the response was that the Park needs to meet the needs of the public as a City Park. The playground would be separated from the new 13th tee ground and 14th green and would not be dangerous according to Tollfree. James Thomson, investigating some of the changes came back with the conclusion that a lot of trees will be cut down to make the entrance into the park and on the 13th hole. On the other side of Fairpark, 14 would become 15 and then 15 would become 16 and 16 would become 17.
