Wayne Waggoner as promised serenaded the contestants with his rendition of La Marseillaise to start the Bastille Day Tournament. Four golfers marched through the War Memorial Golf Course catapulting their shots upto the embankments and onto the greens. In the spirit of the day, tournament chair Ralph Williams lead the players through the rules requiring contestants to tee off on alternating tees of blue, white and red throughout the tournament. It wasn't easy-and no, noone won the penultmate prize of a trip for 2 to Paris (Arkansas that is by bus) with a hole in one on the 17th. Excitement and thrills from the crowds came on the 8th hole when James Thomson holed out with a pitch shot above the hole about 30 feet that hit the flag stick and then dropped into the hole. Colin Osment, a rising star finally got his game on the back nine-must of waked up by then, with a 36. Tournament players were treated to application of their handicaps to obtain blistering net scores for Thomson a 57 and Waggoner a 67.
